National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)

September 19th, 2007 by Dave · No Comments

Sharpen your pencils! November is National Novel Writing Month. The object is simple: write at least 50,000 words in 30 days. I have tried and failed twice before, but I’m optimistic that this will finally be my year.

As far as English teaching goes, if I were teaching a writing class, I might use this event as a group writing project. Students could collaborate on a novel (or just a short story), focusing on writing as much as possible during the month, without editing or worrying about grammar. Later, they could work on revising and peer editing. If you are going to do anything NaNoWriMo-related with your students, feel free to post about it in the comments below.

Signups begin October 1st. Good luck!
