Against All Odds

November 12th, 2007 by Dave · No Comments

AgainstAllOddsAgainst All Odds is a game by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees. It attempts to simulate what it is like to be a refugee and is newly-available in English. There is a lot of reading involved in the game, so I think it could work well in an English class.

At the same time, it could be upsetting for young learners. For example, during the first section, the player is required to sign away various rights. Refusing to do so results in an off-screen hit and some on-screen drops of blood.

Each section links to a set of facts and resources, and there is a special page for teachers.

Here is an article about the game.
