Teacher Training with Caribbean Social Studies Teachers

March 26th, 2009 by Dave · No Comments

I recently found out that I’ll be one of the teachers for a group of 35 or so Haitian and Dominican Social Studies teachers that will be coming here in July. I’ll be meeting with my group for three hours a day for four weeks. They’ll be attending classes at the Patel Center during the mornings and class at the ELI in the afternoon.

In the ELI classes, we’ll go over the readings for their Patel classes and prepare for their lectures. Content-wise, we will be looking at social studies materials and innovative teaching methods. For their final projects, they’ll have to create a multi-day unit dealing in some way with democracy and diversity. I’m really looking forward to it, and I’ll share some of the materials once it gets going.
